Have you ever tried to do big-picture planning at your computer?

Not only are there the distractions (emails, social media, that project you’re working on) …

… but it’s hard to actually think clearly.

There’s a few reasons. When your brain sees your computer, it thinks ‘work’ and ‘action’, not reflection and strategising.

And the part of your decision-making part of your brain is very different to the action-taking part of your brain.

So make it easier on yourself. When it’s time to reflect and plan, move away from your computer. Take some old-school pen and paper, find a comfy chair and maybe a nice view. Do your reflecting+planning somewhere else, and if you want an electronic version, you can always scan (or type) up your paper notes.
