So you want to make your organisation a better place …

Although your vision for making a difference is probably unique, I am pretty sure that the struggles you’re facing aren’t. Do any of these situations sound familiar?
.

  • You often wish “If only there were more hours in the day”.  You have so many ideas you wish to action, but there doesn’t seem to be enough time! So you create long To-Do lists that never seem to get finished, and work longer and longer hours, but you never feel like you can get *on top of it*.
  • You want to make a difference but your efforts are derailed by other people’s resistance. Not everyone shares your enthusiasm for change — some people are just too busy or preoccupied to care, while others are downright opposed to it! You think “If only they’d give it a try, they’d change their minds” but getting even a tiny amount of buy-in can feel like an insurmountable task.
    .
  • You have a vision but feel overwhelmed with all the steps involved. Sometimes a project feels too big so you end up procrastinating. Or you might hit a roadblock and you stay stuck. Days turn into weeks, and weeks into months, and you feel guilty you haven’t made much progress.
    .
  • You’re full of inspiration, but sometimes that means ‘dropping’ a project to work on a new one. While that’s not a problem in itself, you often end up feeling scattered because of so many half-finished projects. You wish you could think clearly and prioritise but it’s hard with so many things competing for your attention.
    .
  • You feel distracted by so many little tasks that are sucking the life out of you and your work. When you get an email notification, you respond straightaway. Or you get sidetracked for hours on social media (after going on “for just a few minutes”). You want to do the truly important stuff that will give you the sense of accomplishment, but these little tasks seem to take up all your time and energy.
    .
  • You try to be optimistic but, deep down,  you’re resentful you’re not making much progress. Time seems to be moving so fast, and you often wonder “Why doesn’t it feel like I’m getting anywhere?” It’s not like you’re wasting your time — you definitely work hard — but sometimes it feels like you’ve got little to show for it.
    .
  • You want to be the best person you can be, so you devour books, newsletters and business blogs like Harvard Business Review, and maybe even have a mentor or mastermind. But you feel frustrated that you’re not putting the “good advice” into practice on a daily basis. You have really good intentions and you try hard to start new habits. But you notice after a few days, your motivation fizzles and you’re back to your old self.
    .
  • You’re scared of burning out. You’re busy, with many projects on the go at once. You have good intentions to look after yourself, but self-care always seems to drop to the bottom of the list. You work longer and longer hours and can’t remember the last time you went on holiday. You’re scared that if you take time off, others will suffer. You know you should be looking after yourself, but it just seems too hard.

If you find yourself in one or more of these above situations, I can help.

Is this you?

My approach works for:

• intrapreneurs (employees — with an ‘entrepreneurial’ mindset — improving organisations from within)

• employees in HR, Organisational Development, Learning & Development

• managers who work in not-for-profits, NGOs, community organisations and corporations-with-a-conscience

• consultants who work on contract within organisations

And it works best if you value the following:

• You have a clear vision for making a difference. Whether for your latest project or on a organisation-wide scale, you’re committed to making a positive impact.

• You’re open-minded. You’re willing to be surprised, to learn new ways of doing things, and to trust in the process. You’re also willing to embrace challenges as learning opportunities.

• You value authenticity. You like it when you can be real and don’t have to pretend to be perfect. (And you appreciate it when others do the same).
